Shawna has wanted to design houses since middle school but started her official architectural career in 1996, working afternoons after high school, at an architecture firm in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She also started working on projects for friends and family and thus DraftSmith was born. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, with her Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies, minor in history and certificate in Urban Planning in May of 2002. After graduating, she returned to a residential architecture firm in Chicagoland, where she had worked the summer before. Since then, Shawna had worked for an architectural firm in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, eventually taking over their residential side as well as an architectural firm in Milwaukee. By 2009, and two children later, DraftSmith was a full-fledged reality and Shawna hasn’t looked back since. She has been working with clients and builders, locally and across the country, ever since designing everything from decks, to bathroom remodels, to additions and new homes. She enjoys working to find the best solution for her client’s needs while remaining budget conscious and still making the project beautiful.
